When your child reaches adulthood
The extent to which the disorder affects fertility varies from person to person. Hirschsprung's disease has no direct consequences for fertility, but this may be the case indirectly: abdominal surgery may have led to the adhesion of tissue and this adhesion may possibly reduce fertility. In the case of an anorectal malformation, there may be abnormalities in the formation of sexual organs. The treating physician can tell you more about this.
Sexual problems can occur due to the physical and psychological consequences of the disorder. The information on this website (see Adults, Children and Youngsters) gives you a good idea of these differences and how you can deal with them. An overview can be found under 'Overview of sexual problems'.
